Chapter 5 The City in the Sky

Image
People who believed in Jesus fled to Zion as the rest of society dissolved into fear and chaos. Famine, war, and natural disasters left those who stayed behind without food. Even the rich people were affected because there wasn’t anything to buy! In Zion they shared everything. All worked hard and helped each other. Everyone had sufficient for their needs. No one hoarded anything and there were neither rich nor poor among them. Everyone had what they needed and a lot of what they wanted. When the people who had driven us from their society realized the people of Zion were not in crisis, they tried to attack and steal their food and supplies. As in times of ancient Israel in the Bible, God did fight our battles for us. Ephraim and I were still on the outside, trying to find as many people as we could who were willing to live the way of Zion and be safe. It became more and more impossible to help others as the general society became more violent, angry, and selfish. We tried...

DREAM ON Chapter 4: Human Faced Grasshoppers

Image
Back in Windsor, my friend Cathy and I were doing our morning walk by the middle school. We rounded to the back of my old classroom building to find several of our soldiers pouring out of a portal, with high tech weapons. Someone handed us weapons as a buzzing whir filled the air. We looked up and saw giant grasshoppers with faces like humans swarming the sky and landing on buildings and jumping down to grab children. Chaos, loud and violent, swirled around us. I lost track of Cathy. I told the students to get inside and lock down. Some panicked and fled out the side door only to become victims of the grasshopper people. I saw one in the hall with Leilani in its jagged appendages. I shot its head off and grabbed her as it fell. She was pale and unconscious. I didn’t know what to do. Then it came to me, in a flash, somehow I knew exactly what to do. Taking a slow deep breath I began to envision the healing light of Jesus Christ pouring into my head and then out of my h...

Dream On: Chapter 3 Ocean Dreams

Image
Chapter 3 OCEAN DREAMS My dreams about the ocean were always a warning. I remember my first ocean dream. I was 5 years old. I stood on the deck of the Beuker’s Beach house. The ocean was swelling past it’s boundaries and coming across the street to wash the house away. I held up my little hand at the water and said, “STOP” and it did. It was just a dream, but it made me feel like I might be able to actually do that some day. Then the ocean dreams started of the people in our ward gathering for a ward activity on the beach and suddenly the clear blue sea became black and dangerous and heaved upon the shore, washing everyone away with startled cries. I rushed to my Suburban with my children pushing them inside and slamming the doors. The waters pulled at my car as I started the engine and the flood rose around up to the door handles sucking us out to sea. The path to the exit road was under water. The high road was up above the boulders of the sea wall. As I felt the ...

Chapter 2: Grandma's house

Chapter two. Reg and I lounged in soft chairs on the wooden porch of our beautiful home. “So how did you get to us in time?” I asked. “I thought the mission was ruined. Who were those people anyway? What are we to do with their kids?” “The children will be divided among our families until we find living relatives. When you didn’t arrive at the portal I began to scan the surrounding area and saw the soldiers head into the woods. I immediately got Adam to reach out and search for you. He found you in the farm house and told me you were panicking. I started to panic and opened a portal in that poor woman’s house immediately. You should have seen her face as our people poured into her living room out of the wall, taking down the soldiers, gathering the children, picking you up, and jumping back into the wall. Then Jo popped back in to pick up that vase of flowers that had gotten knocked over and left a gold coin saying “Thanks for taking the risk” and jumped back through the wa...
